Boodil, My Dog
by Pija Lindenbaum, Gabrielle Charbonnet
In witty, energetically limned art and a text where the narrator's every pronouncement is contradicted by the author- illustrator's sly innuendoes, Lindenbaum (Else-Marie and Her Seven Little Daddies, 1991) depicts a bull terrier who may be fierce and eternally vigilant by reputation, but is actually quiet and timid, though certainly stubborn. Boodil's young owner (never seen or named) rationalizes her behavior at every turn, purportedly describing a paragon while really portraying a difficult, idiosyncratic, but (possibly) lovable pet. The narrative device steals the show, but should get young readers thinking. (Picture book. 4-8) Paperback - 48 pages (April 1995)

Daisy Is a Mommy
by Lisa Kopper
Children (and Bull Terrier owners) will fall in love with this book, especially if they like Daisy Thinks She Is a Baby (1994). Bull terrier Daisy isn't having an identity crisis this time. She knows she's not a baby. She's much too busy taking care of puppies Morris, Dolores, and Little Daisy--carrying them to the kitchen, giving them baths, cleaning up their messes (oops! she doesn't do that)--just like the human baby's Mommy is doing on the opposite page. But there's still time for Daisy to do what dogs do best: she's the first to find her way to Mommy's soft bed--"Daisy is sound asleep. / And now so is everybody else." Kopper's pictures of babies and tumbling puppies, in soft nursery colors, are sweet, sweet, sweet, and is still loaded with charm. -- Reading level: Baby-Preschool, Hardcover - Amer Ed edition (February 1997) List Price: $11.99, Our Price: $8.39, You Save: $3.60 (30%)

Meet Matt and Roxy
by Karen Huszar, Susan Huszar
A simple text serves as captions for colorized photographs of a young boy and his bull terrier in precious moments--wearing colanders on their heads, sharing ice cream, peeping out from beneath the covers, and so on. The casual closeness of their relationship is touching and funny, but the pictures look too much like a series of greeting cards to sustain a story. Reading level: Ages 4-8 -- Hardcover - 24 pages (January 1997)
List Price: $14.95, Our Price: $10.46, You Save: $4.49 (30%)
