The Complete Gamedog, A Guide to Breeding and Raising the American Pit Bull Terrier
by Ed & Chris Faron
The Complete Gamedog would be a valuable addition to any serious American Pit Bull Terrier owner's
library. This 396 page full-size hardbound book has been described by some as the definitive "how to"
book on the APBT. The book is in two parts; Book One contains stories and interviews of interest to
gamedog fanciers, and Book Two (about two thirds of the entire book) is devoted to the breeding and
raising of the game-bred American Pit Bull Terrier and is comprised of the following chapters: The House Pit, Feeding & Nutrition, Housing, Chain Setups & Yard Maintenance, First Aid & Health Care, Gastrointestinal Problems, Internal Parasites, External Parasites, Infectious Diseases, Breeding the Gamedog, Puppies: Birth to Weaning, Keeping Your Bulldog Fit
Also included are over 300 photos and illustrations, many interesting pedigrees, an extensive listings of
books and suppliers as well as a comprehensive index.
This book is a "MUST HAVE" whether you own one APBT or a yard full -- but don't take
our word for it -- read what others have to say about The Complete Gamedog.

Book of the American Pit Bull Terrier
by Richard F. Stratton
This is not what many people are looking for in an APBT book. While Mr. Stratton does give some background on dog fighting (and some pointers on it), the entire nature of the book is centered around dog fighting. Although an illegal bloodsport, he promotes it and gives his ideas of how to train a "pit" dog as well as promoting the notion that any APBT that isn't game (meaning aggressive and willing to fight) isn't worthy and shouldn't be bred. Most responsible breeders and owners of this loyal dedicated breed would certainly declare that the opposite is true. -- Hardcover (April 1985)

Colby's Book of the American Pit Bull Terrier
by Louis B. Colby, Diane Jessup
This book is definitely an instant classic. Anyone seeking information on the APBT breed, and early SBT breed, will find it here. Colby's own archive of oldtime pictures is used freely throughout the book and therein lies much of it's value. The reader is sure to feel a closeness to the APBT breed as well as the Colby family of dogs. Some readers will probably complain about the lack of information on present-day greats, but this isn't the subject of the book. However, I'm sure most readers will appreciate the old photographs and stories to the point where they want a Colby APBT just to feel that they own a part of history. The History of Fighting Dogs
by Dieter Fleig, William Charlton (Translator)
I am a fresh Staff owner in Norway, and got a hole new respect for this type of dog. How can you not when you read about all the awful things man has done to this amimal, and still it loves us so much. The book also pays a tribut to the war dogs which to few of us know about. The book also tells the reason for animal fights and the social situation. Thank you for this great book! -- Hardcover (December 1996)

The Truth About the American Pit Bull Terrier
by Richard F. Stratton
Mr. Stratton pours the intimate knowledge acquired through a lifetime of involvement with the breed into every page of his book. Internationally acclaimed as an expert on the breed Mr. Stratton continues his fight for the survival of this embattled breed through educating his readers. Instead of side stepping the issues Mr. Stratton tackles each one head on and invites anyone who disagrees to a discussion in an open forum. Anyone who has any interest in the breed whether as a fancier or opponent of the breed should read this book to gain the insights of a great man on a great dog. Hardcover - 320 pages (October 1991)

The Ultimate American Pit Bull Terrier
by Jacqueline O'Neil, Jacqueline Fraser
Ms. O'Neil gives information about the Pit Bull that only a person with intimate knowledge of the breed can give. Includes everything from house training and basic obedience to choosing a trainer. She gives the prospective puppy owner insight into grooming and veterinary care and gives pointers in selecting food and toys for the new puppy. Ms. O'Neil discusses and dispells many of the modern myths that abound about this much maligned and misunderstood breed while giving a candid and honest discussion of the breed's virtues and faults. However, Ms. O'Neil could have given more information on the difference between an American Pit Bull Terrier and an American Staffordshire Terrier. The Ultimate Pit Bull Terrier contains great photographs and stories of some modern day Pit Bull Heroes. -- Hardcover - 213 pages (December 1995)

The Working Pit Bull
by Dianne Jessup
Required reading for all current & prospective APBT owners. What is there to say? This is, in my opinion, one of the finest pit bull references an owner can buy. The Working Pit Bull is great information, presented in a style that will keep you reading and written by someone who has "been there and done that" where the breed is concerned. Complimented by some of the best pit pics I've seen published, this book will give the reader a whole new level of respect for a truly great breed. -- Hardcover (March 1996)

World of the American Pit Bull Terrier
by Richard F. Stratton
Stratton has a way of romantacizing pit fighting and exalting the APBT to a point of near "god-like" status. After reading his book, you will be totally convinced that there are only two kinds of dogs. The APBT and those that "wanna be". Learn more about past greats and how this breed really came to be. All the dogs in it might not be conformation right, but they are all great Pit Bulls. There is also reference of dogs exported to other countries as well as some of the greatest Pit Bulls who ever lived bloodlines. This book is for anyone who wishes to learn the true history and characteristics of the breed. It also contains lots of practical advice on how to select and keep one (and how to keep it out of trouble). Contains non-politically correct information on how the unique characteristics have been developed. There are also accounts of classic contests. Pedigrees of important dogs are given. The book is full of great pictures and stories. This book is a must for anyone who loves the American Pit Bull Terrier. -- Hardcover - 288 pages Reprint edition (August 1992)

The World of Fighting Dogs
by Carl Semencic
Carl Semencic's book "The World of Fighting Dogs" was first published in 1984. The information collected for use in this book was collected well before that. At that time, virtually none of the breeds discussed in this book existed in any significant numbers or were known on any level by the many who own, breed or even simply talk about these breeds today. In short, the world had never heard of any of the breeds that Semencic wrote an entire book about. It's important that we recognize this book for what it is: The book that started it all. It would be silly to judge the information contained in this book by today's standards. Instead, this book is one that should be credited with having sparked an interest in hundreds of thousands of people throughout the world and probably as one that saved a number of rare, ancient breeds of dogs from the extinction they faced until Semencic discovered them. -- Hardcover Reprint edition (August 1984)
