Best Way to Train Your Gun Dog : The Delmar Smith
Method by Bill. Tarrant, Jack Samson The best book ever written on gin dog training bar none. I am professional dog trainer and I use this book like a minister uses a Bible. I keep one with me at all times and have them available for my customers to buy and even offer it for sale through amazon.com on my Web Site. I have read almost every book on dog training and Delmar Smith and Bill Tarrant make more sense than anyone, about the right way to train a gun dog. Bill Tarrant does an excellent job of writing and makes the information easy to understand and apply. I use the principals taught in this book everyday in my training program. If you want to train a gun dog or keep an already trained on sharp this is THE book to buy. Bill offers Delmar's training methods in a way anyone can understand and apply. The thing I like the most is I agree almost everything In this book. It takes a common sense approach to dog training and that s all dog training really is. Using common sense to teach a dog what you want. Delmar's three principals are ones I live by. To train a d! og you need three things; Point of contact, association, and repetition. The first time I read that I realized Delmar Smith had the answer of how to effectively train any gun dog. I own all of Bill Tarrant's books, but this is one I read over and over and the one I recommend without reservation. Training Pointing Dogs : All the Answers to All Your
Questions by Paul Long gets you started off right. Helps you understand your dog's personality to prepare for training. If Long says "the dog will probably do ..." it will. My shorthair responded to these techniques instantly. I have little patience with my dogs and the book helped me to overcome that barrier and apply training that gets results. I read it cover to cover the day I recieved it, and have returned to it after each completed lesson. Pointing Dogs Made Easy : How to Train, Nurture, and
Appreciate Your Bird Dog by Steven J. Mulak, Art Delaurier (Editor), Doug Traux (Editor) This is a remarkably fine book on the philosophical under-pinnings of all dog training, with emphasis on bird dogs. Humorous, well-written, interesting. Not a "how-to-do-it" book, this should be read (repeatedly) in conjunction with other more step-by-step books on dog training. Title is misleading.Mulak's approach isn't easy, but it is effective, rational, and fun. A mandatory purchase for all interested in the subject. Hardcover - 208 pages (September 1995) Countrysport Pr The best price for this book is at Amazon.com. The shipping cost and return policy is not under A Dog Owner's Network control. |

Gun Dog : Revolutionary Rapid Training Method by Richard A. Woltersmichelle@moneyhelps.com from Iowa, USA , September 19, 1999 Best training book for novices I raise and train German Shorthaired Pointers. This book has been my "bible" in getting our puppies well-started. Very practical and easy-to-use advice. The wonderful photos with which this book is filled, make Wolters' book even more interesting and his lessons easier to follow. The first book a beginner looking to train a "pointing gun dog" should buy. A reader from Hibbing, Minnesota , July 11, 1999 Wonderful insight into teaching the master and the dog Wolters' style is straightforward and very useful. The gundog owner's
confidence grows along with the dog's abilities. Personally, I have never
trained a dog before, beyond simple commands. I can attest that friends and
fellow hunters in the field are impressed with the abilities of my golden
retriever out in the field. A tribute to Mr. Wolters. Hardcover (November 1987)
