Pet Life Preserver

  • NOT U.S. Coast Guard approved
  • Holds pet's head above water
  • Doesn't restrict swimming

Designed to hold your pet's head up and allow free breathing. Includes a grab strap, plus two quick-release straps that easily adjust for fit. Available in five sizes XXS-L (please refer to chart for proper size); and three colors: Bright Yellow, Bright Red and Camo (Extra-Extra Small not available in Camo). Please specify choice of size and color.

NOTE: Although the manufacturer initially claimed that this pet preserver was made of "U.S. Coast Guard approved materials and specifications" it has brought to my attention that, "the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) does not approve components for PFDs and manufacturers are not authorized to mark their components as being USCG approved. For all components used in manufacturing USCG approved PFDs, Underwrites Laboratories (UL) has to test these components to determine that they meet our requirements and the USCG then accept UL's listed components for specific USE CODEs (see UL 1191 Standard for Safety Components for Personal Flotation Devices) as being acceptable for use these USCG approved PFDs." In fact, they do not approve ANY life jackets (PFDs) for dogs.

This means that the shell and floatation insert may be made of the same materials of a human PFD that is approved, the functionality of the device used for dogs has not been tested and is NOT approved.  The cost of such testing is high and not being tested does not mean that the product would not pass, it simply means that the product has not been tested.

We use this PFD for our dogs and we look for a device that will not become saturated by water and lose flotation capabilities.  In addition, we look for a device that provides floatation that would cause an unconscious dog's nose to point up.  This means floatation distributed around the neck, not just on the sides.  We do recommend this style of PDF for your dog, but we do not, nor does anyone, guarantee any PDF for dogs.
